The Rise of an Empire
The creation of the Mongol Empire was both a slow and onerous process. It began with the merge of the Mongol and Turkic tribes that lived in the Mongolian steppes. Temüjin (Genghis Khan) surfaced on the steppes as a charming leader, he slowly gained followers before he became a nökhör or companion/vassal to Toghril, Khan of the Kereits, the supreme tribe in central Mongolia. While he was in the service of Toghril, Temüjin's talents enabled him to become an important leader among the Mongol tribes. Eventually, Temüjin's gain in power and also the jealousy it caused among other members of Toghril's followers caused Temüjin and Toghril to go separate ways and inevitably to clashing in battle. In 1203, the quarrel between the two ended up coming to an end with Temüjin as the victor. After this occurred, Temüjin united the Mongolian tribes, managing to fully unite them by 1206. With all of them combined into a single supra-tribe that was referred to as Khamag Khamag Mongol Ulus (The All Mongol State).
This resulted of reorganization of the social structure through the dissolvement of old tribal lines and also through regrouping them into an army that was based off of a decimal system. Temüjin also introduced a mighty sense of discipline within the army he created. By 1204, Temüjin had managed to defeat all of his enemies, however it wasn’t until 1206 that the followers of Temüjin decided to recognize him as Mongolia’s sole authority and leader. When they did this, they gave him the title Genghis Khan, which meant firm and fierce or resolute ruler. With the establishment of Genghis Khan as leader, the rise of the fearsome Mongols went into full effect.ith the establishment of Genghis Khan as leader, the rise of the fearsome Mongols went into full effect.o tell a story and let your users know a little more about you.
